Thornton Academy, one of New England’s oldest college preparatory schools, is independent, coeducational and rigorous academically. We’re large enough to offer incredible depth and breadth in our programs, yet small enough to give each and every student personal attention. Our 1,400 students enjoy our 80-acre campus, which includes a middle school for grades 6-8, a high school day program serving grades 9-12, an international high school boarding program, and a Home Stay Program.
Located in Saco, Maine, our campus is 15 miles from Portland, Maine and 90 miles from Boston, accessible by interstate highway or by Amtrak train (the Downeaster), which makes five round trips to Boston daily from the local station less than a mile from campus.
Thornton Academy is close to three major airports – 15 minutes to the International Jetport in Portland, Maine, and 90 minutes to either Boston’s Logan Airport or to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, New Hampshire.
